Album
Hymns is the fifth solo studio album and first Gospel album by American country music singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn. It was released on November 15, 1965, by Decca Records. The album consists of 12 gospel and inspirational songs that were either popular over the years or were written by Lynn for this album. Well known Christian songs such as How Great Thou Art and In the Sweet By and By appear on the album. Loretta Lynn's fourth album - fifth if you count her duet record with Ernest Tubb from earlier in 1965 - is a collection of Christian songs but, despite the title, the record is actually about evenly divided between traditional church music and what would eventually come to be called contemporary Christian music. In between, Lynn essays traditional hymns and newer classics of the style like the Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey's immortal There'll Be Peace in the Valley for Me, the arrangement of which strongly recalls Elvis' hit version. A relative rarity among Lynn's albums, this disc was reissued by King Records in 1998. Hymns Loretta Lynn album. 1965 studio album by Loretta Lynn. Studio album by.
