Its playing time is almost twelve minutes and listening to it is such a very enjoyable musical adventure from its first notes to the very last. This concerto is also a musical marvel. On Tchaikovsky's concerto, Van Cliburn is backed by the RCA Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kiril Kondrashin and the Rachmaninoff pieces by Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Fritz Reiner. Sergei Rachmaninoff composed his Piano Concerto No. 1 in F minor, Op. 1, in 1891, at age 18. He dedicated the work to Alexander Siloti. He revised the work thoroughly in 1917. The work is in three movements: Vivace F minor. This contrast with the later works can be heard from the opening bars, where a brass fanfare precedes a flourish of double octaves and chords on the piano a musical gesture similar to the Schumann and Grieg piano concertos. This flourish occurs later in the movement, as well. 2 Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. They were some of the first that were released widely in the west, where he was still something of a new talent in the late '50s-early '60s, although a middle-aged man by then. The Rachmaninov Concerto No. 2 with Stanislaw Wislocki and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra dates from 1959 and was met with high praise from most for its detail and the depth of Richter's knowledgable interpretation. The Piano Concerto No. 1 in B minor, Op. 23, was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between November 1874 and February 1875. It was revised in the summer of 1879 and again in December 1888. The first version received heavy criticism from Nikolai Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky's desired pianist. Rubinstein later repudiated his previous accusations and became a fervent champion of the work. It is one of the most popular of Tchaikovsky's compositions. Ballet Music - Vienna State Opera Orchestra Conducted By Hermann Scherchen
