Lateralus is the third album by the band Tool. The album was subject to a great deal of both fan and critical anticipation, at the time of its release. Ænima the bands previous album had been a commercial and critical success, but plans for a follow-up album had been delayed for nearly half a decade due to legal struggle between Tool and its label Volcano Records. In 2000, Maynard Keenan released his first album for his side project A Perfect Circle, which while successful, only caused more fervor for the next Tool album. It was named album of the year by Kerrang in 2001 and appeared on many best of lists for best albums of the 2000s. Lateralus Q&A. Lateralus ˌlætəˈræləs is the third studio album by American rock band Tool. It was released on May 15, 2001 through Volcano Entertainment. The album was recorded at Cello Studios in Hollywood and The Hook, Big Empty Space, and The Lodge, in North Hollywood, between October 2000 and January 2001. David Bottrill, who had produced the band's two previous releases Ænima and Salival, produced the album along with the band. Lateralus is the third studio album by American rock band Tool. The album was released on May 15, 2001, and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. On August 5, 2003, Lateralus was certified double platinum by the RIAA. On August 30, 2004 the album was certified Silver by the BPI for sales of 60,000 in the UK. Lateralus was ranked 123 on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Album 2001 13 Songs. The trademarks of their next two decades are born here on their third album-a spiral of math and science themes, brain-melting time signatures, shifting rhythmic interplay, expanding song lengths, tumbles of drums, and the metaphysical artwork of Alex Grey. Listen free to Tool Lateralus The Grudge, Eon Blue Apocalypse and more. 13 tracks 78:51. Lateralus pronounced lætərˈælɪs is the third studio album by American alternativeprogressive metal band Tool. Black then white are all i see in my infancy. red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me. lets me see. as below, so above and beyond, I imagine drawn beyond the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Undertow, Tool's 1993 debut LP, took studio skill and over-trained chops to metal with aplomb. But with popularity and praise, Tool's shadowy tongue-in-cheek turned into the simple biting of tongues. xC6nema spiced their sound with electronics and industry, as was the trend at the time. Now, with the early new century demanding opuses, Tool follows suit. The problem is, Tool defines opus as taking their defining element wanking sludge and stretching it out to the maximum digital capacity of a compact disc. Tool - Lateralus 2001. much of Tools third full-length studio album - five years in the waiting, due in part to extended legal turbulence - makes so little sense at first. But that is one of Lateralus most endearing qualities: It rolls out its pleasures and coherence slowly, even stubbornly. Most of the so-called new metal has the dramatic heft of thin air. The prolonged running times of most of Lateralus thirteen tracks are misleading the entire album rolls and stomps with suitelike purpose. In The Grudge 8:34, Schism 6:43 and Lateralus 9:22, the episodic swerves are compressed under single titles. Other numbers run together like connective tissue. Anyway, this is Tool's 3rd full, proper album counting the '92 Opiate EP as an EP and Salival as a stopgap, rather than a real album. Their previous albums were Undertow in '93 and Aenima in '96. Lateralus was released in May 2001, so it took them a while to make although obviously it wasn't the full five years - Maynard was busy recordingtouring APC, etc. Anyway, on to the tracks 1 - The Grudge 8:36 This is a slow burning track, driven mainly by the percussion and Maynards mantra-like vox

Have to go with 6/10. I've also got "10,000 days" from the same pressing and it sounds way better than this. The mix and the pressing are both substandard. Especially the A side. Something went terribly wrong there, However I do not regret buying it, it is a beatiful thing to have in your collection
I have this release...Soundquality 5/10, at the first spin I thought my record player was broken, like speed went up and down but in fact it is the record.
I have the same issue with my copy. The audio quality is fairly ok, give it a 7. Though the pressing is poorly done , elliptic at times makes it out of tone. Hard to ignore.
I only had side 1 and side 2 spinning, indeed side 2 is better. I never tried the second disc because of the sound quality. But a nice pair of vinyl ( to hang on the wall )
You are correct, there is a problem with the speed in this mix, it's subtle but it ruins it when you notice it.There is unfortunately also a compressor used in the mix, making weird volume bumps from track to track. Also the mix is a little bit too heavy on the bass.If you can get the real Lateralus picture disc, go for it, the sound is fantastic. This here is nice to look at, but the tempo swings ruin it.5/10 seems correctEDIT: It seems the tempo swings are only on disc 1, side 1 - you agree?
Found this release at a local recordshop but since it's not an Official Release, I'm afraid it will be mediocre sound qualityCan anyone give us some insight about this press, please? Much appreciated.
Kidding? The official Lateralus first pressing picture disc sounds awesome?
The official pressing already sounds bad, so I can't even imagine how awful a bootleg would sound. Don't buy it.
